A Workshop On How to Hold Compassion and Consequence Simultaneously. Facilitated by Meghan Campbell of Megan Talks and Ailey Jolie.

Western psychology emphasizes pathology, diagnosing, individualism and demands accountability. Eastern psychology emphasizes diversity, oneness, community, and aims for understanding.

We all have a preference for one or the other dependent on the environment we grew up in and the spaces we feel most at home in as adults. But both psychological perspectives provide problematic situations when they are not held equally. The consequences of western psychology are evident when we look outwards at society but what about the darker aspects of eastern psychology hiding in the shadows of spiritual spiritual communities. Specifically the unspoken phenomena of spiritual bypassing.

Spiritual bypassing is the use of spiritual practices and beliefs to avoid dealing with our painful feelings, unresolved wounds, and developmental needs. Spirituality when used appropriately can inspire more compassionate living but when used inappropriately can be used to deny reality and negate consequence.

This workshop is an exploration of identifying when spiritual practices and attitudes distort reality and shift accountability. Using eastern and western psychologies individual emphasis on compassion or consequence, together we will explore the middle ground of acceptance.

Who Is This For

We live in a culture obsessed with health and wellness but many of these framed “self-care” practices are only reinforcing “sick-care”. One in five women struggle with a form of disordered eating and approximately only one out of twenty women ever receive help. Our culture is disordered around food and body, it’s impossible for anyone man, woman or non-binary folk to be immune.

A lack of awareness around disordered eating in combination with diet cultures infiltration of the wellness sphere has created an epidemic of disordered eating masquerading as “self-care”.

Spend an evening exploring the most #hashtagable wellness trends from the lens of an eating disorder specialist. From colonics to ketogenics - no topic is too taboo. With self-compassion as an ally, together we will explore where self-care has become sick-care and how you can cultivate your own inner skeptic to settle into a self-care setup that is authentic to you and allows you to find the nourishment that allows you to fully flourish.

In “honour” of International Women’s Day, we've chosen to come together with some of our favourite people to celebrate our collective infinite power in the process of honouring the beauty of our fullness, our wholeness, and the simple fact that we have everything we need within us.

Through the lens of the 5 love languages, we'll look inward to ourselves. The 5 love languages are normally understood to improve your relationships with others. Let’s, instead, dial it back to the most important relationship: the relationship to Self. How can we honour the Self, by getting in touch with how we each, individually receive love?
